It is always
accompanied by the ridiculous excuse that there isn't enough time. And no one
can deny that "breakfast" is the most important meal of the day.
What's the
big deal about this early morning meal? For starters, this meal follows an 8 -
10 hour break, so your blood sugar level will be low. Because your body has
been fasting for so long, it requires nourishment to get through the day. As a
result, "breakfast" is regarded as an important and necessary meal of
the day.
Breakfast
benefits both children and adults. It is the key to getting your muscles and
your day going. People who eat (healthy) breakfast every day are more likely to
- Eat more
vitamins and minerals and less fat and cholesterol.
- Increased
strength and endurance. - Improved concentration and productivity throughout the day.
- Weight
control
- Low
cholesterol = no or low risk of heart disease
Children
who eat breakfast are more likely to have better concentration,
problem-solving abilities, and eye-hand coordination. They will be more alert,
creative, and less likely to miss school days.
If you
believe skipping this meal will help you lose weight, reconsider. By skipping
this meal, your body will go into starvation mode, causing you to crave snacks,
particularly sweets. Snacking on unhealthy foods on the spur of the moment can
lead to weight gain. So your goal of losing weight by skipping breakfast
remains unfulfilled.
Each
morning, try to choose healthy foods from at least two food groups.
– Fruits
& Vegetables
– Grains
– Dairy
– Proteins
Breakfast
options include a glass of pure fruit juice, bananas, yoghurt, low-calorie
muesli with semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, fresh fruit salad with a few
spoonfuls of low fat yoghurt, fresh and raw veggies mixed with flavoured
yoghurt, and a slice of toast or plain bread with boiled or poached eggs.
Smoothies with their favorite fruits can be enjoyed by children; add a dash of
yoghurt or honey to make it more delicious.
You are less
likely to skip breakfast if you look forward to eating a variety of healthy
foods. If time is an issue, consider packing your breakfast or eating on the
go; it's better than skipping it entirely.
